Concert Shoot On Thurs, Help

Hey-- Shooting a concert in NH on Thurs night with a DVX100B and DVX 100A. Should I be shooting this concert in 24P or 30P? I am shooting this for the bands DVD promotional material so the quality has to be the best it can be, pretty much. Also, Any suggestions on scene file settings to match up cameras with? I'll be shooting this in a concert venue, and I just want to make sure I have my settings strait before the shoot so I can focus on the other aspects of this event. Oh, and should I shoot this thing 16x9 or 4x3? I need to know what might look best for this kind of thing. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I would shoot this 24p, or 24pa, depending on how you'll edit, default shutter speed, and shoot 4x3 but preserve the 16x9 framing. Then you can scale your image in post, or add letterbox. Using the default f5 should yield pretty nice results, giving you some options to tweak the image in post. Just pray they don't use the dreaded red stage lights.

On a side note, make sure you get a line recording of the concert, the audio captured directly by the dvx or an external microphone will be unusable. Those bass drums will distort your audio no matter how low your levels are.

Just my 2 cents, I'll let the others chime in with some better ideas.

Just set your scene file settings to be equal on both cameras and set the same shutter speed, gain levels, audio levels etc.

Set the white balance for both cameras at the same time off of the same piece of card under the same lighting conditions.

16x9 v 4x3...as you're going to DVD you'll want to be able to present in Anamorphic 16x9. So unless you have the anamorphic adapter, I would read the sticky topic at the top of this "Tehnical" thread on how to do this in post. - Basically just stick some clear tape over the top and bottom of the flip out screen to represent the two black bars and frame everything between the tape. Then you'll gaurantee that you won't lose any footage in an anamorphic frame and you'll still have a 4x3 frame to play with too.

In terms of shooting 24p or 30p...I would should 30p as you're going to Television screens and not film.

Good luck
