Concerning DV50 for DVD

hey everybody, got a question about the mpeg2 dvd codec and shooting in DV50.

Lets say that i shoot something 720x576(pal) on the p2 card with the dv50 codec, would i get any extra quality when rendering out with the mpeg2 codec? In other words does the mpeg codec take advantage of the 50mbit/sec of DV50? or does it render it down to a bitrate of 25Mbit/sec? I know there is options for bitrate in codecs.. but im basically wondering about this for a PAL compatible DVD. The resolution does of course have to be 720x576, but how about the bitrate?

MPEG to DVD is going to be around 7Mbit/sec. You'll have a better source image if you start from DVCPRO50 than from DV, because it'll be less compressed and have twice as much color information. In PAL it's less of an issue since both DV and DVD use 4:2:0, but hey, better source = better final.

So basically even though the bitrate of 50mbit/sec is compressed down to 7mbit/sec about.. values like the color information do not get compressed down as much..

Concerning dv50, I add another question since I sold today my old dvx and I'm deciding between a newer one or an hvx.
Suppose I shoot something for PAL broadcast that will eventually enter a festival/have a dvd release and I want it framed 16/9:

1)shoot dv50 squeeze (better results for eventual anamorphic festival submaster, but "lower" submaster for broadcast, since rescaled to a 4/3 letterboxed )

2)shoot dv50 letterbox (No stretching, no rescaling, but forced to a smaller part of chip horizontally/vertically and shooting with narrower lens. Master ready for broadcast AND SD festival)

On a side, 100% of sensor capability but stretching/rescaling loss in FCP. On the other, use of lower% of sensor capability, but no stretching/rescaling involved. What is better? My assumptions are correct?
Barry already answered me a couple of times on this, but still not definitely cleared to me.
Thanks again
