Computer won't recognize DVX-100

What's up? Now when I plug my firewire into my camera, it won't come up, I just captured stuff from the camera like 30 min. ago... I restarted my computer and everything, why is it happening?

Try another firewire device. You may have a fried firewire port on your DVX.

I think that's what it was. Anyway, I went out and bought a cheapo Canon ZR500 to use as my deck. It's working great now.

Yeah... had a Panasonic DV-2500 deck... it went kerpow one day... no work no more...

I wonder that as well. I have a burnt firewire port on my dvx100a. I have a digital 8 Sony that I have been using to transfer the footage. Is this going to compromise my footage at all?

Anyone know how much it is to fix this though?

If you import via firewire the device you use does not really matter.

When I transfer the footage to the digital 8mm tape, then through firewire to HD, I do lose quality, right? Or no?

I mean, like, is it ok to mix tape brands and stuff? the consumer tapes I were using on the Sony look much less good than the Panny Tapes I have right now in the DVX. I don't wanna screw up my tapes.
