....im having a real problem....I wanna hook up my laptop to the Plasma to show some past family pictures to everyone thats over...and my laptop has an S-Video input on the side..and next to it shows a TV logo....
And my plasma...its just a monitor pretty much..so the brains of the TV is in a working box..next to the DVD player and stuff...that has all the inputs and stuff...and in the front...it has an S-Video hook up so i plugged in the S-Video cord from my computer to the box thats connectted to the TV...put it on the proper TV input...input 4...but no picture...

Is there a special setting i have to go on the laptop to show what i have on the laptop to the TV???
A quick reply would be really really super awesome..if anyone can help out..

my laptop is running on XP Professional.

Try: Reboot laptop while plugged into TV - May recognize it then

Or: Right click any unused area on desktop > Properties > Settings. There you should have options to "TV out"

Luck

Many laptops have sepcial keyboard shortcuts for switchign display modes.
Look at the function key "FN" (normally in the lower left) on your keyboard, it will probably be in a different color, hold that nad then hit the F# key with a picture of a monitor or two.
On my Acer it's FN + F5 to swtich.

I tried rebooting...didnt work

Looked in settings...nothing..

DVI...duno wat that is...its not 1394 is it?

Mikko...no TV symbol on the keyboard for the function button...hope is lost...

i was looking around on the box...and i see a blue input that looks like it goes to a computer..it says Analog RGB...then undernveath..it says PC HOOKUP...soo i went scurrying around my box of wires and inputs....but i dont have the RGB cord...so i devised my own method jus for tonite...tomorrow im going to the computer store to buy the chord.

this is my idea...i put my cam on a tripod...facing the laptop...put on the 16:9 mode so it doesnt get like stretched out or nething...then set a really low exposure...have the camera hooked up via S-Video to the box thats hooked up to the TV...then I put the TV on its proper input...I see a live video feed...so you can see the laptop screen...but some white areas are wayy over exposed and some other areas are like underexposed..but hey..its comin perrtty good.

you'd all laugh at me if u were wit me...lol
my mom comes into the room and sees everything set up....and shes like...wtf are you doing? jus hook it up to the tv...im like..NO!..then I told her the story....then she starts laughin at me and walks away.

.....see how appreciated my mind is?...i get laughed at for thinkin of somthin like that.....but the set up does look funny...its massivly ghetto...

Are you sure there is nothing in advanced settings for monitor out? [TV out is same]

Without even knowing what computer you are using I'm 99.99% positive it's there... You have s-video out so it's there... Look in manual refereing to the s-video out.

Well...i dont have the manual..cuz its an old comptuer my parents bought like 2 years ago.

I tried lookin around the advanced monitor settings...and it says...Notebook + Monitor.
I go to click on that...but nothing happened...so i went wit my method, and jus changed the white exposure to a warm look..and bingo..the pics came out madd good.

...but i still gatta figure out how to get the laptop to get on TV display..hm...

um....its a Dell Latitude C800

the S-Video input is on the left side.

Originally came with Windows 2000 but we upgraded it to XP Professional like a month ago.

I lied about how old it is. lol

i asked my mom...shes like...madd old.

Ok, I have a toshiba laptop, and its pretty simple, there are a number of ways of doing this, normal route:

(0) Connect S-video lead from laptop to TV, make sure the connection is PUSHED all the way in (Trust me, once thats all it took to get mine to work!), becasue for some reason all the s-video connections I've ever come across, seem to be always very tight.

(1a) Fire up laptop, and switch on TV. Now make sure that the TV channel is set to recieve the S-video Signal , usually this can be done by clicking the "AV" button and going through "AV1" , "AV2" sometimes it is called the "AUX" button, whatever just make sure it is the S-video mode.

(1) Enable TV out from laptop, like suggestions that have been posted here, different laptops have different ways, also make sure that the TV output format is set to NTSC 60i , since (at least if I rememeber correctly) you can switch between PAL/NTSC, (I'm assuming your TV's NTSC), your laptops graphics card may not have this option again depends on your make/manufacture/model.

Thats aout it really.

My method,

I have a 3.5mm audio jack to stereo phono leads, and an s-video cable, with one dual (bi-directional) SCART adaptor, , the sound cable jacks into the headphone socket (on the laptop) and is fed into the adaptor, and the s-video is also fed into the adaptor. Then the SCART adaptor is plugged into the TV, and hey presto, stereo sound and video. Easy

Hope that helps.

Good info Anhar

I got it to work..but a different way....I clicked a button with the FN button held down..i got a PM from Mikko..he told me a diff way.

but i think all these methods are the same....hook it up...monitor settings...bleh bleh bleh tinker tinker....turn tv on and go to AV..and viola!

well...i got to work....AFTER my family left and viewed the most ghetto-ist slideshow i have ever and they have seen.
Using a crap consumer camera on a tripod looking down at a laptop monitor...exposure is way off depending on pics....white balance differences helps..but only so much....and to top it off..on a Plasma tv...it kinda disgraced the TV i think. haha

well..in ne case..thanks for ur input everyone!
