computer not recognizing my camera

i am trying to import stuff from my dvx100 to adobe premiere pro cs4 on my mac. in the devices window on premiere pro, i have it under Panasonic DVX100p with NTSC. i need to know why my computer won't recognize the camera at all. its not premiere because all other applications won't recognize it either.

Does it show up in the system profiler?
Try another fire cable and/or another firewire port on the computer.
Do you have another camera that is receognized?

It didnt show up on the system profiler. I have another firewire cable and it didnt work either, I am using my friends little handycam as a deck temporarily and my computer recognizes it just fine. do you think i need a driver for the DVX100?

I used to have that problem try connecting the camera then start premier after if that doesn't work disconnect the cam then start premier and then turn the cam on

my firewire port on my dvx100a went out about after a year...i have read from others that they have had same prob...but i never used the dvx100a for capture anyway so i never looked into getting it fixed...i have always used a different camcorder for capture...

i wantto buy a cheap handeld minidv camera for a deck and as a slave, because i do live webcasts, so i need a cheap camera with seperate ports for dv in/out. now theyre mostly 1 port which is dv in/out, but once i saw a camera with seperate ports... anyone have a model they want to tell me about?
