Hello
Try changing :cable, fire wire card, connect to an another camera or frewire vcr, if it refuses to work you are in the same situation I was one mont ago with a brand new dvx: I had to sent it to Egin IL and they changed for free the camera's firewire card. Sorry. Jose
I had that same problem when I got my G5 back in October. FCP4 would not recognize my camera. However, when I plugged my FIREWIRE cable into the port that is in the BACK of the tower instead of the one that is in the front, everything worked! So I am not sure why the one on the front didn't work so I just use the one on the back all the time now. Matters of fact, I just keep the cable plugged in back there.
I called Panasonic and they told me to send my camera to an authorized dealer, whose name they provided, to get it fixed. I had to pay for the shipping to get the camera to them, but it was under warranty and they paid to have it shipped back. Call panasonic, it is a common problem with this camera.
It might NOT be the camera though. Like I stated above, it was a firewire location with me. After I plug the cable into another port ( I have 3 ports) it worked.
that is something that i am considering however I have read posts where some people have had issues with them. They shot all this footage and they had the same problem where they couldn't get their footage in the computer from one of those portable hard disc drives that you wear on your belt. I am going to wait for another 6 months or so and then I will look into them.
..pending onhand budget. simply solving the hardware/softeware issue would be way easier. first off make sure that the port your connecting to is an active port and is functioning properly..it may need to be activated in the cpu bios, or operating system software. second i would be sure that you are using updated software that can recognize the dvx capture driver .(i didnt see you mention what software your trying to capture to.. but if its somthing like "mr cools video editor for win 95" that could be your problem)- and third i would try changing the firewire cable- fourth i would let panasonic know and have it serviced/exchanged and 5th i would smear peanut butter and jelly in the firewire port and call it a day.
