CompUSA= bad news???

There's a good deal at CompUSA on a computer monitor I like ($400/free S&H vs $440 at JR.com) , but they rate only a 2 on resellerratings.

This is like the rating of a Brooklyn storefront, yet they're a big, national company. Just how bad are they?

That's weird. I bought my G5, printer, scanner, and other stuff from them and got excellent service. They even let me exchange my old printer for the newer upgraded one that prints on dvd's for nothing.....it was some deal they had going on. Anyhow that of course was the local comp usa in my town. Don't know about dealing with them on line. They are a pretty huge chain of stores. I don't know if I would worry to much about them. I would wait and hear from others just in case.

I've bought a lot of stuff through them and since I hate dealing with moron sales people in the store I order a lot online, and I have never had a problem at all.

The thing about reseller ratings is with a major company (office depot, compusa, bestbuy, ect.) I think that people rarely would think to go online to comment about a purchase that went well, but if something went wrong, I guarantee they will. The same could be said about mom & pops like EVS, but with EVS I went to reseller ratings, with compusa I didn't. I don't know... I've had no problem ordering from them.

Here's what scares me:

CompUSA = 2.2
Amazon = 6.5
B&H=9.2

Lots of people here have complained about the B&H attitude, and Amazon has got to be bigger than CompUSA. But the numbers...

Well, the rebate expires tomorrow, so I gotta decide soon!

P.S. For online orders, have you gotten tracking numbers? Somebody said CompU doesn't send them.

I can't make the decision for you, but i would totally go for it, they are huge!! I have ordered from them before and had no problems.

good luck

The in store service is my only complaint.

I used to buy alot of stuff from them when i was strictly PC and all of the gear worked fine.

That sounds like a good deal so i'd go for it. Just hope you never have to deal with their customer service or god forbid their repair shop.

I had 7 months of bad experience with the repair shop of the Brighton store in Boston.

I have shopped at CompUSA quite a bit. I hate it that they ALWAYS seem to have the best deal on the things I want. First, it is at least a 45 minute drive for me to get to to the store; second - it is hard to get any service in the store; third - about half the time I have gone to the store only to find out they have run out and will not issue a raincheck; final comment - their return policy on computers sucks - other than that I guess they are o.k. :-).

Based on opinions here and on resellerratings, I'd guess that ordering and receiving the monitor would be OK, but if there's a problem (damaged, missing pieces, or just not liking it) I'd be very frustrated. A bit of a gamble.

I second what the other guys have said here. I've done business with them for years. You won't always find the cheapest price, but they are a reputable company and you wont have any problems.

Do they ship mail order from a warehouse or the nearest store? Some people have complained of fingerprints on in-store pickup items.
