Compressor spitting out 4:3 mpegs of HD quicktimes? Help!

I have to upload a video tonight and for some reason, compressor is overriding my settings.

I have footage shot on the HPX170, standard, out of box F1 setting, HD 720 60i, just regular old 720 HD video. I edited it in FCP 7 with no problems. I exported a self contained quicktime movie as I always do and brought that into compressor. (The full res quicktime opens correctly as a 16:9 movie when I open it with Quicktime.) So I bring it into compressor, choose destination and make it an mpeg4 for web, I tried leaving it as-is and I tried changing the settings to letterboxed and 16:9 and it only spits out a stretched 4:3 mpeg, what am I missing?

Any help appreciated!

mpeg 4, apple's settings. what do you mean using anamorphic? Where would I even change that setting? I thought compressor reads the file automatically? I've never had this problem. Is there a tutorial for taking an uncompressed .mov (hd 60i 720) and compressing it for web? I feel like some setting is messed up and I don't even know it, I've never had this happen before. Thanks for the ideas.

Sounds like the problem is that your both using "letterboxed" and "16:9"?? You only need letterboxed if your target is a 4:3 resolution without cropping. Otherwise, it should stay at 16:9 only.

In my 16:9 settings for streaming movies, the Geometry settings are as follows:

Crop to : Custom ( 0's in all 4 boxes )

Frame Size : ( Varies depending on target resolution/bandwidth - all 16:9 resolutions ) Custom 16:9

Pixel Aspect : Default for size

Padding : Custom ( all set to zero )

I've made 5 different custom presets to match the target movie sizes I need to hit. The resolutions I've created are:

1280-720 ( in house network streaming mostly )

800x450 ( divides into 720 evenly.. otherwise I get a phantom green pixel border. )

640x360

426x240

248x140 - wicked slow network clients. looks like hell, but at least they can watch it.
