Compressor Slow Compression Times

So I am trying to compress 2.5 hours worth of video footage and it is taking about 6 hours to compress the footage. Is this normal? Also has anyone had any problems putting 4 hours of footage onto a double layer DVD? Thanks ahead for the help.

Umm, yeah you're going to have problems with the 4 hours of MPEG-2 PS @ 8GB. - If you enabled "frame controls" in your compressor profile for the target, that would be one of the primary reasons it's slow.

I have had similar problems when compressing long sequences. what would you do differently when compressing long videos. does it ever call for mulitple sequences?

Four hours on a DL DVD will have to be encoded at about 4 mbps with dolby 2 audio.

Not going to look good.

compressor is always known to be slower, but I find the quality out of it very good. you can also check this out to create a virtual cluster if you aren't already doing it, it speeds things up a lot IMHO.

Two hours of SD footage on a SD DVD runs about 4.5 mbps with dolby2 audio.

Still will not look very good based on my experience.
