Compressor quits unexpectedly

OK I export from FCP 6 to Compressor 3 and I get the compressor logo screen come up then.... "Compressor quit unexpectedly. Please reopen the application. Click report to see more details...."

Click reopen and it just dies on me.

Any ideas? Tried to export a small single file from FCP and the same. Tried to re-install the final cut studio disk and when I start it up...same problem.

Running the latest OS. Have 2 gig ram. Was working fine a few days ago. Quad mac 3.0. Latest QT version.

How do you repair permissions?

If that doesn't work who do you do a complete uninstall of final cut studio 2?

Thanks in advance.

Repair permissions by opening "Disk Utility" in the Utilites folder. All your volumes will be listed on the sidebar...Click on your start up drive and you will see a button at the bottom saying "repair permissions". Click it. This should be done kind of regularly...I do it once a week just to head off problems.

The other thing you can do is delete the .plist file for Compressor. Search for this:
"com.apple.compressor.Compressor.plist"...delete it and then launch compressor and it will create a fresh one.

Good luck

For terms like "repair permissions," just try a quick google search. Better than posting a question here and waiting.

Also, you might detail how you installed FCS2. Complete erase and fresh install or what?

It seemed almost impossible uninstall FCS 2 very easily, so I used an app called Apzapper which seemed to find a lot of the files which are spewed into different parts of the hard drive.

Then I went through and tried to find anything that looked like it had been missed.

Reinstalled FCS and so far its been working fine.
