Compressor hanging up

I have been batch processing all day, dozens of files at a time. Suddenly, on the last batch, Compressor decided it didn't want to work. I put the files in a batch list and when I go to Target>New Target With Setting like I normally do, and then choose the codec, it just sits there and hangs. It won't go any further, and I have to force quit.

I have reset background processing. I have dumped prefs. I've restarted the Mac. Nothing helps. Edit starts at 10:30am and I need this last batch converted. Any ideas?

If it's an edited timeline with mixed items, that may cause the hang-up. I had the same thing happen with an imported graphic. 3 seconds of this graphic were enough to prevent an hour timeline from rendering. I broke the timeline up into sections to narrow down the offending item. some sections rendered, one didn't. Ended up being a corrupted graphic import. Exported the graphic from PS then re-imported it and it rendered no problem.

This was for a live Addy award presentation, we were supposed to burn to DVD but instead had to bring our mac down and run it live because we couldn't figure out the problem until after the show. Stressful...

Read the post again. I am batch processing in Compressor. FCP has nothing to do with it, and edited timelines have nothing to do with it. These are source files (h.264 from the T2i).

I have found that I can't put over 40-ish files in compressor without crashing. Something that sped it up was to close the preview (color bars) window.

When I want to have a large number of files going I submit separate batches of 30 or so.

Best of luck

Well, perhaps one of your t2i files were corrupted upon transfer.

Try doing them individually or break up the batch to see if one is bad.

Like Tim said, best of luck.

That's about what I've experienced, but it started suddenly. I was processing 30-ish files at a time, then Compressor decided it didn't like that. Got the last batch taken care of, but I had to add them to the batch list 10 files at a time and it took the computer an abnormally long time to apply the codec to each item before I could submit the batch.

Of course, the new problem is that FCP has decided it doesn't like subclips... they were fine, and suddenly all of the subclips we'd created were black video with the audio. Trashing FCP prefs didn't help.

I've been having the same problems as you Alex. Regardless of the video files i'm working on. It was sudden - maybe a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to figure out why? After reading this post - I'm wondering whether if there is some glitch in apple's updates? really don't know. Hopefully someone can shed some light for us.

Im having exactly the same problem. I've tried Compressor Repair from here: http://slccut.com/tutorials/40-appl...ssor-stuck-batch-process-trashing-preferences but this doesn't help. Strange thing is it's happened recently after working ok in the past and cant see whats different. Reckon it can only be an OSX update BUT i've seen this (unresolved) problem on old threads. "Batch processing' when you can only process 10 files at a time is a total joke! I'm tearing my hair out as I've got 200 D7 files to transcode to ProRes and a deadline to meet!
Anyone got any feasible ideas?
