Compressor does not work

Hello,
In Compressor I continue to have the dreaded:

"Unable to submit to queue.
Please restart your computer or verify your Compressor installation is correct."

Yes, I know this link:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888?viewlocale=en_US

I have already done all that (reinstalled three times) and it still does not work!

Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas about what this could be?

Thanks,
CB

Hmm, I'm guessing you use Compressor 3, right?

It seems the latest Compressor has issues with stability and odd behaviour like this, it just stops working correctly.

I'm no expert in this, but my own failings with Compressor had to do with some earlier failed encodings.
Despite the facts you have reinstalled the program:

You could first delete all the works from your Compressor history (Command+1). If it shows earlier encode history even if you have reinstalled the program, I think it shows that all the temp files are still somewhere and might cause the problem?

Then open the Batch monitor in Compressor, and delete all the batches from your render cluster and your computer (if there are any). Also, you can check the status buttons (upper right corner in Batch monitor) if they reveal some info about the status of some failed encodings that might corrupt Compressor. Especially Active tab shows if Compressor thinks there are works in progress, when there really isn't.

Then; you could open your Mac's System preferences and go to Apple QMaster. There go to Advanced tab and check what it reads in the "Shared Cluster storage". There are stored all the temp files from Compressor's earlier jobs, and I'm guessing they play a part in messing the program too.

NOTE: if you're in a network of different computers as part of a render cluster, please check that you're not deleting any works in progress from other computers or users!!! Consult the tech / network guy about this if you're unsure!

My few problems with Compressor came after it had failed to encode some videos and they were left "active" in the Batch monitor, but I couldn't delete them. They didn't allow any new jobs.

Thanks Proffit,
Opened preferences and discovered that SHARING for QMaster wasn't turned on! Duhhhh.
