compression question.

on the dvx (or any handcam) When you record to DV tape it compresses it 5:1 (4:2:0), but if you connect the camera via firewire and record from the editing software (eg premiere)(which doesnt record to tape) is the compression still the same 5:1?
 
Yes. It is comperessed/processed right afther the image gose throught the CCD's then it gose to a DA kind of and out to tape or firewire or the AV ports on the camera. but you are right the image is still compressed 5:1. The only way around it is what those guys at real streem are working on. They take the image right off the CCD's befor it gets processed.
