compression question

Hoping to get some feedback from this knowledgeable group. I just finished editing a music video for a friend of mine who is trying to get into a video contest sponsored by cmt.com.

We need to upload the video to their site which requires some compression of the video. At full quality the video is only listed at 650mb. I would like to keep as much quality as possible. I am looking for the best way to compress video for online streaming without losing noticeable quality. I have researched the youtube help page and their suggestions for best quality of video but it seems that the video I've uploaded in the past (although the footage was not shot with the dvx) seems to lose all of it's sharpness when shown online.

The video has to be submitted by Sunday so time is short. Not to mention that she found out about this contest last Sunday, we shot the video on Monday and I've been editing all week long after cooking for 12 hours at my restaurant. good times........

Depending on what program you are using, you are probably going to want to use WMV or FLV (flash)

What are the file limitations on the CMT site? There is also quicktime.

I take it that the file right now is in AVI format?

if you are using FCP as your NLE better use h.264 i don't have compressor so i'm using quicktime...here are my settings for any website-

VIDEO
h.264 (320X240)
15 fps
best
optimized for download
limited to 600 kb

AUDIO
set to mono
at 32 khz
aac

hope this helps...

I have it all done in Final Cut. I exported it last night to quicktime with it set to DV NTSC 48 kHz. The video seems to be 'grainy' in the background. I had it set at full quality with no compression so I'm not sure where this 'textured' background is happening.

I still need to compress it to upload it to the site and am very concerned about the quality.

15fps?? why? you should leave the frames per second as you shot it...

Check out the "compression" section of the forums. There's a wealth of info in there.
