hi all. i am using a pc and hvx200. what is the best compressor for avi files, also other files...i want to upload them to the internet, but as you, you can only upload upt 100mb, but when i have sizes of 300-500mb what should i do thanks...please help

You mention a 100MB upload limit -- what service are you talking about? The file formats acceptable to the various video hosting services varies, so you may not have much choice or find that your video gets converted to a different format after uploading.

If you ask such open-ended questions, you won't get very useful replies.

State exactly what you are planning on doing -- what service you will use, how long your video is (not how large the AVI files are right now, that by itself is useless), what quality your are looking for (frame dimensions, framerate) etc.

if you want to put it on the web you should be rendering it as QT or WMV compressed format. These normally are much smaller then AVI which is un-compressed.

Cheers,

krish is right, you don't want to upload uncompressed files of any format (.MOV or .AVI) -- render with h.264 for highest quality or .wmv for smaller quality and then upload to the web... trust me, you'll be much happier uploading that than some huge 500mb file. uploading a 500mb file is just ridiculous!! Anything like that should be torrent'ed

i have the .avi files...what program is good for converting to .mov or .wmv like you guys said.

thanks

open up in QT Pro 7 to export h.264 (click file > export) and for .wmv you should probably export it straight out of your NLE -- or just import your .avi into windows movie maker (or the like) if youre not on your editing pc and export .wmv out of that.

QT Pro 7 costs money, but is very very cheap. It's worth every penny... what is it now, like, 20 bucks or so? I have no idea... but h.264 is beautiful!
