Component vs vga?

Is component always the way to go when outputing to an hdtv or could i use vga if the televison has an input for it? Or will my colors be much different?

Background story: I been chaseing ATI for an answer what "vga to hdtv" adapter i need for my firegl v5200 since it didn't come with my laptop. So I wonder if it matter if i go with the vga directly instead, or will it be better with the compoennt?

A VGA connection can even go beyond hd resolutions and can be used for HD as long as your graphics adapter in yr PC is able to output the hd sequences in full res without stuttering.

I'm going to assume David simply misunderstoon Eljoninjo's question-- VGA resolution is indeed pretty worthless -- 640x480. But I believe he was asking about using the VGA connector on his video card to output HD resolution to his HDTV.

Thanks, Yes I was asking about using the VGA connector on my video card to output HD resolution on a hdtv. So does anybody know if its better if i get an "vga to component" adapter or stick with vga to connect to the hdtv?
