Component out to HDMI on a HD TV? Possible?

I'm not sure if this would be a less compressed signal (look better) OR if it's even possible. I searched around on the net and didn't find any type of adapter that would enable going from the analog component out on the HVX to the HDMI in on a Sony XBR HDTV that I'm looking at buying.

Does anyone know if this is possible or exists? Maybe AJA makes something.
I already know that I can go to the component in's on the HDTV... just wondering if there is any other/higher quality way?

SERIOUSLY doubt you'll find such a beast - HDMI was designed to be a digital secure channel. Or if you do, it'll be seriously expensive

I really doubt you could see the diffrence. I've gone both component and HDMI to my 36" HD WEGA and the diffrence was indistinguishable. Playback was from the desktop preview of a G5 with a DVI to HDMI converter.

Actually you should be able to do this. I use a component video to DVI transcoder to display my HVX output on my various LCD monitors. You can get such transcoders easily on ebay.

This is the one I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=294&item=9713427879

Since HDMI is simply DVI with audio, you should be able to get a DVI to HDMI adapter, and attach it to the transcoder. This should accomplish what you're asking.

Incidentally, the picture quality would be the same as just hooking up via the component outputs, so I'm not sure you would actually want to do this.

Thanks guys that's all I needed to hear. I guess it's pointless... if the image quality is the same I might as well just stick with the analog component.

Cheers!
