i use mine with a crane all the time. if you want it shorter, get a velcro tie and wrap it up. if you need it longer. get some RCA barrels and another cable. not much more to it. mine has never failed me. heat, humidity, wind? performs as it should.
there are a couple of aftermarket cables out there. not sure if they are remarkably longer or shorter or better...
I just want a better cable. Recently, I upgraded my monitor to HD and purchased three nice Mogami cables to run down the crane rails. Seems a shame to plug them into the Panny cable. I have used the Panny adapter quite a bit from cam to HDTV and though it works, it has never inspired my confidence.
I looked everywhere for this mini-D connector or whatever it's called so I too could build my own but no luck. I settled on RCA couplers, what can you do.... it worked anyway.
Neither of these really does it for me. I'd love to have a 1 footer for when I have the DP6 on camera. Having the coil of extra cable there sucks.
Also, I'd like to have a ten footer for off-camera monitoring, and I haven't been able to find that either. Barrels pull apart so easily!
The thin wires that go to the individual RCA jacks do not inspire a lot of confidence, it's true.
For sure. I am building a real nice loomed cable harness for my crane, and this is the weak link for sure. Ditto on the 6ft cable when using an on cam monitor. I suppose that with the 170 I should upgrade to SDI. For other cams, go HDMI. At least with those you can get whatever you need.
