Component Cable problem

Hey people,
I have a problem getting a signal in my Marshall HD Field Monitor. I'll use images to explain better.
I am using this cable that came with the HPX170:

For those who haven't tried this, the cable requires additional connectors:

After getting the right connectors , I figured it was just a matter of plugging the cable on both ends ( HPX to the Marshall Monitor ) and it would work

I got NO SIGNAL warning on the Marshall. It would not play HD, SD, or display a video signal of any kind.

I don't know why it wouldn't work, but I tried a different approach:

I was using an old video cable

It worked!

Playback of HD and SD was enabled and I also was able to film and record 1080i 1080p and 720p. Signal looked good compared with HDSDI, but I imagine HDSDI would be superior.

My question is : WHY did the component cable connection not work? Do I need a different kind of component cable? ( one with 4 ends instead of 3 ? )

thanks in advance

The only thing that comes to mind is making sure the monitor is set to the same format as the camera...720p 24 to720p 24 and so on. It sounds like you have that covered though.

The Marshall Monitor automatically detects the format and the source. I did get a signal through that old video cable, but isn't component a superior alternative? Why won't it work? Have I done anything wrong?
The reason I am not using SDI is because I will be using a Panasonic Monitor alongside the Marshall soon. I wanted to have the Marshall connected to the HPX via component , and the Panasonic connected to the HPX via HDSDI. Not sure if this can work simultaneously though, it would be great if it did.

Bad cable, connector, monitor or wrong setting...this stuff will make you crazy. if you are near another monitor that accepts component, like a local shop or school you could try the camera and component cable there and rule out one possibility.

The HPX can be connected to a standard LCD TV screen via component , right? I will try that at home to see if the cable is faulty.

I'm not near my cam just now so check me on this. The 170 is capable of outputting both a SDI and component signal, but not at the same time. I believe you must choose which in the menus.

Also, you are correct that the composite cable you're using will be inferior to either component or SDI. Component is a high quality analogue signal, and SDI is digital. Both produce a similar quality image, but component is disappearing as an interface.
