Complimentary copy of Edius Neo

I normally use Vegas for my editing, but I thought I would take a look at Edius Neo Booster that came with the HMC40.

I have been learning Edius for a couple weeks. I was just up on the Grass Valley website and noticed that Edius Neo is supposed to come with a couple proDad plugins (mercalli, shaker and vitascene).

I don't see the plugins in Edius. There seems to be two possible reasons for that (1) I'm a noob and don't know where to look or (2) the complimentary copy does not come with those plug-ins.

Can any of you shed light on that?

I just uninstalled my copy of Edius 5 to install Neo2.5 Booster and check it out.
I don't think the plugins are included with the freebie copy we got with the HMC40. Probably because GV has to pay for them from a 3rd party.
Anyway... while I'm on the topic...

I switched to CS4 due to a few things... Editing AVCHD natively was one.. integration with other Adobe apps the other. Well, last night I plunked Neo2.5 on my i7 920 rig and was floored! This thing *edits* AVCHD as smooth as butta! I put on three layers of 1080/24P footage with 2D PIPs on them over a 720/60P background layer playing in slowmo at 29.97 and it played out just fine! Actually if I didn't know it, I'd swear it were standard HDV, or DV. I even tried multiple layers with the WB/ CC filter and transitions... SMOOTH!
If Edius 5.5 has this, it'll be awesome!
Heck, Neo 2.5 is AMAZING!
GV just beat the snot outta Vegas and Adobe to the RT AVCHD native editing finish line!

Are you using Neo 2.5 booster?

My system specs:
i7 920 @ 3.4GHZ
6 GB OCZ tripple channel
500GB SATA main
2) 1TB drives (not in raid) for video
GeForce 960

ATL, have you tried Booster with any other types of h.264 files (specifically Canon DSLR h.264 MOV files?) If it speeds them up, that'd be huge news.

I've got my free copy of Neo 2, but I just can't bring myself to uninstall EDIUS 5. Crossed fingers and hoping/waiting for an EDIUS Pro 5.5 or 6 with booster-like functionality...

I haven't tried yet, but I have some NX5 clips and some SD9 clips I can try in a bit. I'll let you know how it goes ASAP.

Don't have any dslr clips, but I'll find some to try.

***Update***

Tried the SD9 clips.. work like a champ (expected that.. they are Panasonic clips too). Next comes the 7D .mov files. I should know in a bit when I finish downloading them.

Yup, using booster. On a dual core laptop 2.4 GHz with 3GB RAM running Vista Premium. I haven't tried anything that complex, but what I have tried has been really good; even on my laptop.

I have been exchanging emails with Grass Valley support, but I am pretty sure it just is not included. I am trying to see if I can pay some upgrade fee to get the full package (we'll see if they offer anything and what the cost would be).

I already own proDAD mercali (I use it with Vegas). I'll install it for Edius tonight (I think it would support my Edius Neo Booster - but we'll see). I was also hoping for the Vitascene support that comes with the retail Neo Booster.

I still prefer the workflow in Vegas to Neo, but I have become increasingly dissatisfied with the stability of Vegas - just the other night I took some raw footage from my HMC40 (1080/24p) about 50 minutes total and tried to use the Burn to Blu-ray from the timeline - well after several hours of rendering it got to 62% and then just hung up :Drogar-Angry(DBG):. So I thought I'd give Neo a try - started it up - went to bed and in the morning I had my blu-ray. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

The one thing I don't like about Edius is that you must pick the output format when you start the project. If you pick wrong you may not be able to bet the output you want. For example the project that I used to burn the blu-ray was a 1080/24p project, I could not burn a DVD with that project (and you cannot change the project settings to anything that will burn a DVD) - fortunately there was no real work on that project. If there had been my only recourse would have been to render to an intermediate and then start a new project and use the intermediate file. The output rendering setting capability is also very weak compared to Vegas. But none of the flexibility of Vegas matters very much if it is slow and unreliable.

So I think I am going to use Edius Neo for a while and see how it looks after using it for a bit. As a side note: the Edius manual sucks - the training material available is very limited compared to almost any other NLE. I bought the macProVideo Edius 101 training ($49.50) - its a pretty good beginner introduction to Edius and almost all of it applies to Neo.

Talked with an Edius rep yesterday. Edius 5.5 (Edius 5 with booster tech) is in the pipeline and shouldnt be long till we have it. As always the update is free if you already have a 5.0 license.
