Completely lost with the FS-100

I got an FS-100 for my HVX and I've already torn the hair out of my head.

So, I've pretty much figured out how to record onto the thing (though I may be doing that wrong as well). I can play back the footage through the camera once I'm done, but I can't view the clips on the computer. All I get in there are .xml files in the clips folder.

I've been through the manual a bunch of times but I'm just not getting it. So I'd appreciate if someone could guide me through the steps on how to record DVCPROHD footage and make them into Quicktime files.

Also, shouldn't the TC counter in the camera be moving while I'm rolling?

Sorry if this is dumb, but I'd rather ask than make mistakes.

I think people will need more info, like which editing app you are using, to be able to help.

In short, before you transfer your clips to the computer, you go to the utilities menu and choose "organize p2". Then go to the HDD mode menu and choose "DD drive" and follow the directions. You should see the firestore mounted on the computer like a normal firewire drive. Copy the "lastclip.txt" file and the "contents" folder to a local drive. In your editing app, import your clips from that folder on your local drive as if it were a P2 card.

The firestore won't make quicktime files until the next firmware update, hopefully soon.

With the FS-100 you can't have Quicktime file in DVCPROHD. Only in P2 format.
Quicktime, AVI, CANOPUS bla bla bla are availaible only in DVCPRO and DV format, not in DVCPRO HD...

I Organized the P2, went into DD Drive, connected to the computer, copied the lastclip.txt file and contents folder to the local drive, but there was no file in there that Final Cut Pro recognized.

I don't know if it's a settings issue with Final Cut or if I just have the wrong setup on the firestore.

Abaddon,
Make sure you are using FCP 5.1.2. Also confirm that you have the proper drivers installed. Finally, this will seem like a stupid suggestion, but make sure you are trying to import the files and not batch/capture. Go to import...select your hard drive...select the contents file (don't double click) and hit okay.

What are the drivers I need? I saw a bunch of stuff on Focus' site, but I don't know what's what.

I just discovered that when I go into Import, it does have a Panasonic P2 option. When I click on that, I can see a menu with all the clips in it (First frame photo, timecodes, etc). But when I try to open the clips, I get this message, "One or more P2 clips failed to import, probable incomplete or corrupt clips."

Now, I am running FCP 5.0.1, but if this version doesn't cut it, would I even have the P2 option in the menu?

FCP 5.01 doesn't work. You need FCP_5.0.4 at a minimum. You should have already done the crossgrade to FCP 5.1 and upgraded to FCP 5.1.2, because that is the most current version of the software. But, at the very least, run Software update and update yourself to FCP 5.0.4. Then immediately send your disks back to Apple to crossgrade to the 5.1 version. Install that and then update to 5.1.2

Nothing else you need to download. Update to FCP 5.0.4. Invoke Import -> Panasonic P2 and point to the folder containing your files you have copied to your media drive from the Firestore.
