Compatible mics for Sony UWP-D11

Hi,

I was trying to decide between Senn G3 and Sony UWP-D11 and saw Sennheiser has 33 mics listed on BH Photo site vs. only 8 for Sony. How are the quality of the lavs available for Sony? I am leaning towards the Sony as it has more features I like but the lack of lav mics might be an issue.

I am also thinking of getting the MKE 600 and this might tip me towards the G3 since I can add the wireless SKP 300
if required. Can I connect G3 to MKE 600 via XLR > 3.5mm jack?

BTW, which do you prefer G3 or Sony? The Sony seems to have some important features such as headphone
output.

Thanks.

I have 3 set of the Sony UWP-D-16 (the kit with with a plug on Tx unit) and are very happy with them, although I have changed the original mic with a Rode Lav mic with the Micon8 adaptor.
Are they better than the G3's? .... I don't know as I have only used the G2's but not G3's.
The main reason I went to the Sony mic kits was the 48v and 'line level' setting on the plug on Tx units.

Sennheiser do a cheaper plug on unit than SKP300 they also have a SKP 200 and SKP 100 but keep in mind some units will NOT have phantom power, but if you intend to use the Sennheiser MKE600 mic it runs on phantom power OR battery, so you get by with a plug on Tx unit without phantom powering (BUT it may limit future mic choices for you)

Can you connect a MKE600 to a belt pack Tx unit the answer is yes providing the connections are right, It might have to be a custom made cable but yes it can be done.

I did a side-by-side of the G3 and the Sony, and was not impressed with the Sony.

You can read my thoughts HERE.
