Compatibility Question

I was reading somewhere that the DVX with its 2:3 pulldown works on any editing system. Is that true? Seeing how im about a stones throw from buying the DVX, and after that i will hardly be able to afford Vegas, Premiere Etc for a long while.... Will my (dont laugh) $99.99 Movie Edit pro be able to handle the Footage? I read i nthe PDF of the DVX manual that only the big four can handle the pull down, but if its just frames... i dont see why it wouldnt work. Unless its coded differently and my brain cant grasp the concept.

Re: Compatibility Question

Footage shot in 24p Normal should be recognized by any NLE that can edit "normal" DV footage.

Re: Compatibility Question

Cool. 24p normal is the one that is difficult to burn into film right?

Re: Compatibility Question

What do you mean burn to film? Transfer to film? Anything shot in 24p is going to be easier to transfer than something shot at say 30fps.

Re: Compatibility Question

If you're not editing in one of the 24P-aware programs, then you'll be editing normal 60i video.

Re: Compatibility Question

If I'm not mistaken the only NLE's that recognize 24p are Premiere, Final Cut, Vegas and Avid. But don't quote me on that.

Re: Compatibility Question

ok barry, but maybe my inexperience with the high end editing programs and 24P are making me unclear. Ummm... if its trandsferring 24P to a 60I equivalent, then you edit, and lets say burn to DVD, when you watch it on your TV or small digital projector, it is 60I.... But does it retain the charachteristics of 24P????? like interms of motion? is it just that simple?

or do you need a NLE that recognizes 24P and like..... does what ever it does when it recognizes the 24P. like the difference between dv and HDV, itsa different codec that only FCPHD can read but not regular FCP. do you see what im getting at? Basically i jsut want to know if i can edit 24P normal on my 99$ editing program....

Re: Compatibility Question

I will eventually get better Editing equipment, but i dont want to get a DVX and not use teh 24P for a year while i save up for a new computer and AVID VEGAS Premier ETC...... Thanks you guys are great help.

Re: Compatibility Question

You can just dump your 24p footage into your editing program and it will transform it to 60i. It will retain the look and feel. Basically, what you can't do is transfer straight to film. But it doesn't sound like you need to do that. So you'll be fine. But I do suggest that if your going to put that much money into a camera, you invest in a better NLE.

It will also make a difference between making a progressive and interlaced DVD.
