comparison of 2 sounds

Here are 2 sounds from 2 mics (mics are plugged into my camcorder in XLR:
sound 1 : 00 to 45 sec: shotgun
sound 2 : 45sec to end : Lavalier

- Which sound do you prefer and why ?
- Should i use a shotgun in ideal condition to have a better sound ? I thought of buying an oktava mic

The shotgun has more top end, however the high frequencies are smeared. The lav has lower clarity, maybe a little EQ would help it some. The choice is yours.

- Oktava 012 mics are not all created equal, there's also modifications to consider for increased performance. Search and read up on the many caveats prior to choosing a mic.. and vendor.

Still not a fair comparison. It sounds like you are using the shotgun mic hand-held and up very close, as I do hear some handling noise in that sample. This is going to have a dinstinctly different overall sound that a shotgun properly boomed overhead.

The lav sounds like a lav: midrange-heavy with a little chest resonance, and dry.
