Comparison Canon FD and Canon EF lenses on Sony NEX FS100

Nice test. I would say that in your link to the full sized frame versions that they're not full-size but look like a screen grab in the quicktime player. Is it possible to actually post the original frames so we can compare like for like?

In the comparison between the 28-80 f3.5 and the 17-55 f2.8 both at 28mm it looks like the f2.8 lens is quite a bit darker than the f3.5. Were the apertures set to something other than wide open? Or perhaps the light conditions (sun/cloud) very different?

thanks
Paul

The frame grabs are FullSize FullFrame. Just clck on the frame you want to see. Click again to see it fullscreen and then you can download/save them. The file you download is a fullsize framegrab what was played in QuickTime7

And all shot, displayed at the bottom of the fame, where taken at f6.7. Except for the EF lenses at f7.1 (there is no f6.7)
The sun conditions were almost the same. Only the EF lenses were set to f7.1 and the FD lenses at f6.7. But this doesn't explain why the FD lenses are darker. Just one thing to keep in mind.

Thanks for watching and for your question...

I'll take another look at the photos. I'm surprised the FD is are f6.7, aren't they manual aperture? And what kind of adapter are you using with the EF lenses to get electronic control?

The images don't look f6/7 either.

cheers
Paul

The FD lenses are manual set to f6.7 and the camera was close to the objects. With the FD-NEX adapter you can manual set the aperture very easy on the fly.
Perhaps I didn't add this, I should, but there are 2 ND filters (ND4 + ND8) before the lens.
The EF lenses are set to f7.1 with my Canon EOS 400D. Then the lens is removed from the body while pressing the aperture 'preview' button. We you press the button the aperture ring closes to the aperture you have set. When you remove the lens, still pressing the button, the aperture ring will not change. Then just put the EF lens on your e-mount adapter and start shooting.
