compare DVX100 with JVC GY-HD100U - workflow question

I'll be running some tests with the new HDV camer from JVC and i'm trying to figure out the workflow. Besicaly i'll be shooting similar subject with DVX100 and the JVC camera and then previewing it at SD on various monitors. The test will involve lots of post work (heavy CC, increasing teh contrast, maybe going to BW) as well as handheld work. I was wondering about the workflow. I'll shoot at 720p24p and then... then what? Do i downconvert using the camera??? Can i even hook up th camera to the computer directly i i need a special deck????

If you're only editing on SD, you may want to consider just shooting SD? It would make the workflow a lot easier.

What do you edit on? If you use Vegas you should have no workflow problems, Vegas 6 can capture JVC 24p. You cannot downconvert in the camera. You could capture the raw footage and then downconvert in Vegas, but it'll be really slow to edit. For decent performance you'll need a fast computer or maybe to transcode over to Cineform or some other intermediate codec.

You can hook the camera up to the computer, you don't need a special deck. Going straight from the camera is best, but you can also use the older JVC products; they can't play 24p but they can transport the firewire stream over and be used for capture. Be aware that you cannot use Sony products or Canon products to capture JVC footage, you'll have to use a JVC product.

Whenever i shoot DV i dread shooting wide shots (and even med wides) as i know there are not enough details in those. I want to see how HDV compares especially after heavy CC. I'm concidering investing in one of those HD/HDV cameras (Panasonic, Canon or JVC) and I am running some tests to see whether HDV cuts it even close to its claims (I know, Pana isn't HDV).
