Companies selling $4,000 HVX's

The only way to get a sub 4000$us hvx is to buy it from an authorized dealer in japan.
If you are european you could buy it in singapore. I did not check the price recently, but a year ago it was cheaper then the canadian price.
Has for the warranty it's a gamble. The hvx is a pretty trouble free cam, you seldom see people with problems on the forum. So the odds are for you. But it's still a gamble.

That site is now on DVXuser's homepage (the flash banners), and DVXuser is advertising on it.

Are you referring to the spec-comm website? If so, spec-comm is an authorized dealer for the Panasonic HVX. Also, I believe they are a sponser on this site. They are not a gray market retailer.

Hello RC,

Yes. It is our banner and we are an authorized dealer and sponsor on this site. The faq attached to the link is very beneficial for all that are contemplating a gray market camera.

Best regards,

I can tell you to avoid any company in Brooklyn, NY. Trust me on this. There is one company that has about 5 different DBA's. They post erroneous feedback, their service is horrible, and it was one of the biggest regrets if my life! They post low prices because they remove everything (including the viewfinder). If you have an issue, forget it. I had a problem where Focus Enhancements (a great company) called my "dealer" to help resolve an issue I was having (www.cameraproffesionals.com). The company literally swore at the guy from Focus and told him not to call anymore. They're also not above selling you a PAL version of the camera without your knowledge. Please trust me on this: pay the extra $$$ and go to a reputable dealer!!

Just for laughs I called RainbowTronics and asked about their $1549 deal on the HVX200, which they said they had in stock.

When I asked what it included, he said it was "just the camera body" (as if you can remove anything from an HVX's "body", like a lens) and when I specified I wanted all the pieces, including the battery, charger etc. the price jumped to $3750. Then I asked if it was "US spec" and he said that would cost $4195. Then my other phone rang, and I bailed.

So we never got to the bottom line, but I'll bet once he finished forcing me to buy a $400 extended warranty, a box of 3 DV tapes for $90 and so on, the deal would have been precious little less than the reputable folks would have charged.

And the resellerratings.com page is, quite predictably, about 98% "very dissatisfied", with a few "very satisfieds" sprinked in. Plants, one might think.

I bought my HVX last year from Full Compass, who have always proven to be excellent in every way.

So what would happen if you did order one for that price without the lens? Would they actually do it? They would have to break a perfectly good camera.

My buddy ordered one three months ago and he's still waiting. When he did talk to someone, the camera was "out of stock" and they suggested a digital still camera instead.

That is hilarious! I heard of them suggesting consumer video cameras but a still camera!?! I love this thread! :)
