I'm looking to pick up a pretty cheap lighting kit for around 300. I'd like to just use CFL's, i've used them before and I'm happy with them.
any suggestions on kits?

Cool lights - it's all over this site, great service and good product.
If by "cfl" you mean some spiral bulb mess... Think 55 watt biax based setups.
If cool lights is too pricey, check amazon for cowboy studio biax in 2, 4 or 6 tubes. Very affordable chinese stuff. Will they last years and years? Likely not, but for under $200 for a twin biax... Really not bad. Perhaps a quad and a dual to get started.
Personally, my feeling is skip the softbox cfl kits. Unless you only shoot head shoulder interviews, you'll be better off with some big sheets of fabric for bounce vs little cheesey softboxes.
