Commercial lighting setup for this style?

Doing this on a soundstage in front of a large black muslin. From my preliminary inspection, looks like there are a few lighting setups.

:07 a spotted backlight, that's almost a toplight from slightly behind and overhead.

:10 a fairly large source above camera right from overhead w/a backlight.

:11 think these lights are low and to camera left?

:12 diffused spot directly behind camera, overhead, no backlight.

Looks like everything is in a version of one of these lighting setups. I'm assuming this was done on a theatrical stage, but I could be wrong! Anyone see something I'm missing?

Thx!

If you check the catch-lights in the dancer's eyes at 0:26 you will see a variety of different lights used for each shot, including a long rectangular light source that is lower to the ground. This makes me wonder if all of these shots were made on different dates, which might be why most of the lighting is so different for each one. ( like each person had their own lighting set-up )

All that lighting looks pretty hard, which makes me think they shot it on the show stage. Fresnels and spots?

I'd guess a 1K Leko (or the 575 that replaced the FEL is really common in lekos) would get a lot of those hard looks from a ways back. Also looks pretty crushed and popped in post, which would help with any spill on the BG - though if your space is big that shouldn't be a worry.

Sounds like you should be able to nail it - an early setup or a test day might show you if you're short a fixture or two. "when it doubt, bring everything" is usually my rule! But if it were my gig, I'd try to get in a couple hours before setup with a stand in and double check your primary looks, this being a more unique look than the usual soft light.

I wondered that as well...until I thought it may just be that they're using stage lighting and a board to give them the various looks. I see the foot lights...good catch.

I think you are right on. Gonna double check w/the sound stage that they have enough of the hard lighting. I do still have one Arri kit left, but have moved almost everything to Kinos, various LED over the past year.
