Commercial I wrote premiering tonight on ESPN

Internet Sensation
One of the Interstate Batteries spots we shot in Vancouver back in September is premiering tonight during the Texas/Texas A&M game on ESPN. The first link is for that spot (yep, we're running a 60 tonight). The second link is for a spot that will start running this spring.

Director was Patrick Sherman with Anonymous Content. Edited by Peter Tarter of Radium LA/Dallas.

The Interstate spots are done and available for public consumption.

Brilliant! (gotta' give the nod to "pinball"... Both very good... Pinball will become legend however.)

At first I thought the older man saying "should have had an Interstate" was the driver of the other car... the "pinball" car... and THAT made it way funnier. I wish that were the case! After watching the other commercial I realize that he must be the CEO or something.

Thanks, guys! Yes, the older guy at the end is Norm Miller, owner/CEO of Interstate. We know a lot of people will think he's the driver of the Pinball car, and that's okay with us. Norm's a great guy and IB has been a phenomenal client who hardly ever says no to anything (like our hairy guy in Tight Fit, for instance). A true rarity, as we all know.

Pinball was the first spot I wrote for this campaign, inspired by KC winters when cars would stupidly try to get up the hill by my office. Plenty of YouTube videos for reference helped sell it in. We've got several more scripts in the can, each one different than the last but still ending the same way. Hope the client starts wanting to spend some more money more frequently!

Cool, but I also said "F.U. old man!" at the guy with the tagline.
The name "pinball" made me think that when the college student finally got down to the street he was gonna hit a button and pinball flippers were gonna knock that car back up the street.
Congratulations.

With no disrespect, but the dude in "Tight Fit" almost looked like a cross between Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro.

How many cars were "damaged" during the pinball shoot?

Where they junkers? Any good stories from the location? Just wondering.

Nice job, great concept.

Tight fit! Great spot.

The other day I parked way out in a parking lot, away from all other cars...when I came out of the store, sure enough, even with a hugh empty parking lot....don't you know someone had to park their car not 6 inches from my driver's side door? WTF!!!

Luck would have it I could get into the passengers side & slide over. It was all I could do to keep myself from 'keying' the side of the other car...but Karma's a ***** (and I married her once already!).

Ha! That's awesome. The beard and hair was all him. His headshot actually showed him shaved and with "normal" hair. He looked about 12. His improv was great -- an awesome find.

Five cars total were damaged -- the driven car, three along the street and the Jetta hero car. Most cars were mid- to late-80s. No total junkers. One was the Civic from "Tight Fit." All hit cars were bought from used car lots. Non-targets were rentals. My art director kept the grill from the Jetta. The car that got sideswiped had the mirror gaffered on after each shot.

Nothing terribly crazy happened on set (thank goodness). The stunt driver was also working on the A-Team movie, but I didn't have a chance to talk with him very much. Skilled dude, though, and he developed the caster system to make the car look like it was sliding (removed in post, of course). The hero guy tended to swing his arms wide when running, hence the pointing at the car and fishing for his keys. :)

Vancouver was quite nice. Wouldn't mind taking my wife there someday.

I would like to see the making of the pinball one. can you post it? How does the caster system work?

Watching the Tight fit one, I was waiting for the coffee to spill over the windsheild when he hit the steerring wheel with his fist.
