We are looking for a decent head and lightweight tripod without the need for a bunch of accessories to add up the weight.

This holds 11 pounds although BHPhoto says nothing about the tripod.

Anybody have any experience with the system:

David, I can not comment on the HIDV1. I do have the Cartoni Focus, and for about 10% $, you get a 22lb head (looks same legs) and you get a carry bag.

The Focus camera plate is being replaced as we speak, from carbon fibre to a metal plate. There has been discussion of flex/backlash with the carbon plate, so if you order a Cartoni, make sure you try it out and make it a condition that it is supplied with a metal plate, imo.
