Barry,
You are dangerous. No one with the stuff that's in your head should be allowed to walk free! I've been reading your book (got it about 3 weeks ago), and I learned more in the first hour about video than I even thought was there. When you know why, how comes easy and you were smart to tell us why first. I then was able to understand much more of the how and how to make educated adjustments instead of guesses! I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge. I got mine in the rebate program, but now that I know what is in it, I would have paid the $100 just for the first part of the book. The how is just a bonus!
I was use to shooting with a $1000 point and shoot camera and the learning curve on the HVX was quite intimidating. I am seeing that the more I learn, the better the footage. The camera is way better than I am at this point, but I'm slowly getting up to speed. Your book has really helped open my eyes!
It took awhile for all the parts to come together because the DV rack software was still in development and I had to get a new laptop as mine went down just about the time I bought the HVX, so it's been a bit frustrating. But just as the software came available and I got the lap top, there was your book. It was all worth the wait.
I shoot in HD and edit in SD and use the larger frame afforded by the HD footage to pan and scan after the fact. Works great if you're a one man operation. (Hard to be a performer and a camera man at the same time!) With my other camera, if I Zoomed in over 120% it began to pixilate too much. Now it starts at 200% when the footage is imported and I mostly have to pull back. Way back! It's amazing how good a cameraman you can be when you can analyze the footage first and then make your "moves"! Your book has improved the footage immensely!
Thank God for people like you!
