Coming from GH4 to A7s

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about selling my GH4 kit and getting an A7s. Decided I'd rather have lowlight and dr over resolution at this point (and I can add a Shogun later if I need it). The only thing that's holding me back is the lens situation. I own all Canon and C/Y (w/Canon adapter) lenses at this point. If anyone else is in the same boat, and I suspect there are a few, how did you sucessfully use your Canon lenses with your A7s? Is Metabones the best way to go? Are there any real world downsides I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

I am happy with the cheaper commlite adapter. Autofocus is close to unusable both with the metabones and the commlite and any other adapter. Everything else works.

Regarding the Contax C/Y lenses - I also have a set with Canon mounts on them. I tried the Fotodiox C/Y to e-mount adapter and it is fairly well made, fits ok. The tripod mount on the bottom doesn't align properly though - it's off-centre and whilst it works with most of the lenses, with my 35-70 3.4 it's giving me some real flare. I'm going to get some flocking material and see if that improves.

I'm also looking at the Commlite.

That's great, thanks! 1/4 the price of the metabones. Yeah, all I really need is aperture control and IS. AF would be nice, but not a deal breaker.

Is this the same adapter you have?

If so, have you tried multiple copies or just the one? You might have just gotten a lemon, but if it happened accross multiple samples maybe I'd try a different brand like this: http://www.amazon.com/Fotasy-NACY-C...&qid=1415909424&sr=1-2&keywords=contax+to+nex

I haven't tried multiple copies no. Will see what happens if I put flocking inside the adapter. It's pretty smooth and shiny in there, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the culprit.

I use the Commlite as well and it works well for my needs. There are some strange quirks though with the aperture, like it'll automatically open up all the way when you hit record (at least on the 35mm 2.0 from Canon) but the A7s will still display the previous F-stop, so you have to roll the aperture all the way open, then close it back down. Not a deal breaker, but definitely annoying. If you are thinking of selling the GH4 for an A7s, shoot me a PM as I may be up for a trade (trust me though, I love the A7s and my idea to trade is not based on the merits of the A7s) :)

Or email me at kevin.kirchman at gmail

I noticed this too with the commlite but only in M-Mode. In Movie Mode, this doesnt happen,at least for me.

I picked up an A7s a week ago. I bought the metabones IV adapter. Well made, very poor results in my experience though.
Didn't work with my Tamron 24-70 properly at all (would stop adjusting aperture, could never get through the entire range, ever). A few issues with my Tokina, a few with the Canon 50mm and even my Zeiss 28 as well.

I thought I could 'deal' with it, but shooting an interview on Wednesday, the A7s actually stopped recording because of an adjustment I made to the aperture. That was the deciding moment and huge deal breaker for me.
Returned the adapter.
Bought a Rokinon 14 Cine and Rokinon 85 Cine (both e-mount).

Hopefully just an issue with it working with Tamron or something, but I won't touch adapters again.

I'm interested in trading if you haven't already, sent you an email.

My Metabones V4 works well with my Canon 24-70 f 2.8L, 70-200 f2.7 L v1, 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L v1, 50mm 1.4 and 17-40 f4 L.

The focus is slow, but IS works fine on lenses that have it.

I do prefer the Sony/Zies 24-70 f4 the focus is faster and the IS is very good, better than the Canons, but I like the f2.8 on the Canon 24-70.

So I now have an a7s (Kevin and I swapped) and I bought the fotasy adapter. It's so shiny inside that its unusable. I just sent it in for a refund and will try the fotodiox adapter. I can't believe they would use such a reflective material on the inside!

buy cheap, buy twice.

It wasn't to save $13 that I bought the fotasy. I'm not rich but that's still not enough to cheap out on gear. I own two m43 adapters from that company and they're great. They don't have the weird reflective paint that ruins the image. Very strange choice on this one.

Update: I got the fotodiox C/Y to NEX adapter and it is MUCH better then the fotasy, which just went back to Amazon. Still can't believe how reflective the fotasy was on the inside...
