Coming Correct - Atlanta Independent Comedy Feature

No major updates for Coming Correct - waiting to hear on a few more festivals before we finally try to do some serious selling.

We ARE about to start on a new feature, not the sci-fi idea that I had mentioned before, but another comedy in the vein of (A Different World, Living Single). I'll start a thread on it soon. Anyone interested in being a part of the movie you're welcome to PM me. Remember we are in the Atlanta, GA area and our budget for this project is pretty small. Our main goal is to keep up with the 24 Diary - 3 movie plan and to keep the energy moving.

Thanks

No fallout. In fact things are going well. We're happy with everything thus far. The next set of fests is not until June and I figure why wait. I know I won't be pushing the festival thing beyond this summer, so I need to go ahead and get into another project. I've learned there's no since in stopping, just keep it moving, keep the momentum flowing. I'll start a new thread for the new project once everything is solid, until then I may post a few things over here just to let a few people know about it.

I'm posting this because I love for people to see that Atlanta has some talented people here. It's our destiny to be the Hollywood of the Southeast!

I pulled the thread below from our local Film Production Site. This is a script written by DVXuser's Martay (Martin Kelley) and another Atlanta Writer Robert J. Lee.

Immigration Tango - Written by ATL writers
Okay, just an update on a project that myself and Robert J. Lee wrote a while back and workshopped through the Atlanta Screenwriters Group. The script is "Immigration Tango" and we were a Top 3 Finalist in Atlanta Film Festival's Perfect Pitch (lost to James Ponsoldt who went on to Sundance with his film "Off the Black").

Well, we sold the script a couple years ago and the film was produced and shot in Miami.

It recently premiered at the Boston International film festival and the Palm Beach Film Festival.

The trailer is available here:
http://www.mutressamovies.com/trailer_Tango.html

And I just found out that Immigration Tango won Best Picture and Best Actor (Carlos Leon) at the Boston International Film Festival this past Sunday.

So, I'll give more updates when they're available on this project.

Thanks for the shout out!

No problem! You just need to sell like 20 more scripts so I can borrow a million bucks from you. LOL

We're still waiting to hear back from a few more festivals on "Coming Correct". We just got into the San Fransico Black Film Festvial. That makes 5 festivals.

Casting has started for "Between Friends". Casting has gone well. So far we've had some great young ladies to come out for the top two female roles. We'll be in callbacks very soon and taking the cast to see the wonderful guys and gals at the Atlanta Screenwriters Group. It'll be nice to hear the script read by the actors who will play the parts.

Dang, the one meeting this summer that I won't be presiding over the reading, I definitely would have liked to hear the read with some cast in place. Have a great read and let me know who you cast, I'm always curious about the local talent.

Congratulations on the San Francisco Black Film Festival. I hear it's a good one but we missed the deadline when we did our run with "B.A.M." in '08.

Thanks Martin. We're happy about the festival. We've been contacted about another - which I have to research. I would have loved for you to sit in on the read too. So you could have given me a good review of the script. But I'll tape it, just in case you want to come up. LOL

There are some pretty good folks out there. Our Saturday casting went well. Met over 8 new actresses that can not only act but are wonderful to look at too! And you haev to have both in this industry. It was one of the main reasons I wanted to do a casting. I haven't seen what's in Atlanta in a long time. There are some very good people hiding in theaters or a gospel play or just getting out of college or maybe just moved here and hungry for success. Wednesday we do another call. You're welcome to come through, even if you just want to see the talent.

New Trailer! Full of Awards and Such! LOL Have a look

Hey jls4!

Congratulations on having Coming Correct selected for the Bronze Lens Festival in ATL!

Nice work.

You are going to have to tell me how it goes at the fest as I'm likely running around like a chicken with my head cut off this week as we finalize some stuff for Delivery on Battle.

Have a great time,

Martin

Coming Correct plays today at 4PM in Atlanta at the Bronze Lens Film Festival in downtown Atlanta. Admission is free. Come on out, introduce yourselves I'd love to meet some more Atlanta DVXusers! ;-)

Trying to send a few folks your way for the screening. Have a great one!

Screening is over. Had a few people come out. Not many. We got the notice within 5 days of the showing, so what can you do. But I was happy with the turnout and most people seemed to like the feature. Thanks for trying to send people over to us Martin.

It's been a long time since I've posted. I'll try to make this a GOOD ONE.

At the end of 2010, after Coming Correct was in several film festivals, we ran into an Actor named Thomas Ford, i.e. Tommy from the Martin Lawrence TV show called Martin. I’m sure you guys can find plenty of clips on Youtube. Anyway Tommy was pretty impressed with our work (Red Collar) and wanted us to help him in making a few teaser projects.

I went out for about a month or so off and on working for Tommy. In turn Tommy promised to help me with one of my projects. After a while we settled in on help for Coming Correct. Tommy made a call to several of his friends who had notable names in the Hollywood Scene (Among African-Americans) these included Carl Payne (Martin TV Show, The Cosby Show), Nephew Tommy (Steve Harvey Morning Radio Show), Angie Stone (Recording Artist), Rodney Perry (Monique Show, Tyler Perry’s Big Happy Family), and Terri J. Vaughn (Steve Harvey TV Show) all working and living here in Atlanta. (I keep telling you guys Atlanta is blowing up!)

After some conversations we created a new plot line that would be added to Coming Correct. The new plot line would follow Dr. Lagos who was a military style Therapy Councilor. We had already established in the previous version that our lead was having issues of intimacy with his wife, now we would see more of that and get more from the lead’s best friend “James” now played by Tommy Ford. As an audience we watch them work with Dr. Lagos. What we created I think most of you will find absolutely hilarious. Many times we couldn’t stop laughing – literally on set.

18 months later, a new version of Coming Correct was finished and we shopped it and it got picked up by Grindstone / Lionsgate for release. I’m not sure when the project will hit stores but I’ll be sure to let everyone know. I just finished up most of the paperwork this week, so hopefully now all we need to do is get a few more forms done and get the master video transferred over to HD Tape for delivery to Grindstone and I’ll be done. This is why I’ve been so quiet. I’ve literally been working my tail off.

You can check out the trailer below:

The biggest thing I learned from all this is to make sure that YOU DON’T SPEND 4 AND ½ YEARS ON A MOVIE! LOL Honestly after all was said and done that was my biggest regret. We had Between Friends that I could have moved Tommy to, and that probably would have worked better in hindsight (Between Friends was only 40% done at the time), BUT we do have a project that I think came out GREAT.

Believe it or not, the flow of the movie is very good, despite adding the names late in the project. I talk about “writing from the inside out” on the 24 Diary blog and that’s exactly what we did. We cut out about 25 minutes of our original footage, killing 2 small storylines and a few scenes, then added in the newer stuff pumping up a storyline and adding a small one with Dr. Lagos.

It was a GREAT learning experience for me. And it was AWESOME working with such talented people. Honestly working with a “pro” who’s been on sets for years, is just a totally different experience than working with Actors trying to “break in.” Actors who have been around awhile are used to coming up with ideas, they take chances, and they are all around more confident in what they bring to the table. All of them were a breeze to work with and honestly respected my position as director. Only downside to pro actors is that they don’t like holding the boom or picking up lights afterward. LOL

Coming Correct should be out on Video on Demand soon, followed by DVD and Cable Releases. This is my second distribution, so it’s kind of cool to know I’m making progress in the direction I want to go. We’re also getting a little attention towards Between Friends even though it’s not finished. We’re working on a sizzle reel for it now that we can use to shop and see if we can pick up some cash. I’m also plan on starting a brand new project very soon, which I’ll try to give you guys some info on. Thanks a bunch!

Wow. Awesome update! Maybe it's taking 4 years is a blessing in disguise since the "on demand" marketplace and delivery have really matured over the years. HD also.

We'll see as the residuals come in. LOL But thanks for keeping up and I'll try to let you guys know more as things roll in.
