Hi, everyone – I just completed my first narrative film on the FS100. You all have been a great resource for using this camera. Would love to hear your thoughts on this trailer as well! The budget was less than $1,000 but, thanks to a lot of great people, we finished it!

Thanks for watching and for all of your help!

Thanks so much! Really appreciate it. I used mostly Canon FD lenses with a couple Sony zeiss and rokinon 35mm shots. There is some crumblepop grain35 and gorilla grain on most of these shots and I used a couple of custom profiles that I'll post once I'm on a real computer!

That is really some good stuff there. Yeah, the lead female actor was a bit 'rehearsed'. But still, really awesome work, it looks way more
'high budget' than it was (I am guessing). Great job!

Thanks for your kind words and suggestions. I'm actually re-recording the first monologue today... the reluctant actress / my wife didn't like it but I thought it was fine with music. Rookie mistake!

The creature is just makeup, rubber and glue.

I don't say this as a point of pride... I wish I had invested a little more money into this. But the budget for this 19 minute film was approx. $800 – with the help of several friends and family members who worked for free and some nice local rental shops. So if you're looking to make a film, it's possible to do it on the cheap!

That lead female's delivery was really flat.

That was the first thing that stuck out to me. I felt like her lines were at a table read. It didn't come accross as convincing. But maybe she got better as the movie went along. I also thought some of the scene looked very videoish. I dont know why, maybe lighting or just the way the cam handled the situation. But overall it looked pretty good considering it was a no budget feature. I thought the dude in the basement was pretty creepy, kind of looked like that golum from lord of the rings.lol

Thanks for taking a look, maranfilms! Were there particular scenes that looked more video-ish than others. I'm not fully done with grading, so maybe I can take a 2nd look at certain situations. Thanks!

Shradical!

No doubt, before I even read user comments, I thought the same thing about the lead's acting. That aside, I think the good outweighs the bad here. Let us know when we can see the finished product.

I like this version much better, The shot that still seems weird to me is right at 29sec. I guess its its the shot mixed with the voice over makes it feel almost like a documentary for only a few seconds, where she says "Their good people" then the shot of the guy on the bench. Right there has a video feel. Plus the shoot isn't really showing that their good people, maybe use another shot of the same guy interacting with his wife or something to show "people" as plural. Its not a huge thing but it's the fine details that take it to the next level. When I have a little more time I will go through again. But dont take these comments as being harsh, your film looks great but I think the trailer can make it pop even more.

Maranfilms - Definitely not harsh! Great to hear your thoughts! This is my first film, so I definitely can use some guidance. Thanks so much for your help!
