Comedy Experiment

We made a short sort of on the spot in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Mainly it was to test our acting skills, because we forced ourselves to shoot only in masters and not use close ups. For the most part I think it works, but we might just be fooling ourselves. Let us know what you think, no holding back.

The little thing over the end credits is just a in joke, because the actor said the line so bad I felt it was necessary to put it in there, and also because there's no real end.

the no. 1 thing with comedy is timing. I would play with camera angles, its best to get tighter shot so that the characters come out more to the audience. and poor audio is like hearing a stand up act with a cut off mic. so those two things killed it. other than that, you got me to chuckle towards the end so not bad.

I've had to film several things before i picked up on how to shoot comedies. Personally i think a comedy is a hardest thing to film. most other things can enhanced in post, with a comedy its pretty much has to flow all throughout.

Yeah, timing is everything, and one of the things we wanted to play with here was staging and using the blocking and movement to tell the story, which is something we haven't focused on when we do normal coverage because you can just cut to the person instead of moving them, but the thing we seem to loose in shooting just masters is the ability to fix timing in editing.

We'll try to get better sound too, which has always been something we suck at.

I guess I was really just wondering what people's tolerance level for awkward pauses and bad audio is.
