Combining On-Board Audio with Inputs on Zoom H4

Hi All!

I've been googling desperately for the answer to this for a while, and all I can find is information on the h4n.

I'm going to be recording a rock concert next weekend and I was hoping to combine the audio from the H4's on-board mic with mixer audio supplid to input 1 via XLR. It seems like this is possible in 4 track recording on the H4N, but I can't see if it works for the H4.

Is there a way to assign different inputs to each of the 4 tracks and bounce them after? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe that was a feature that was added to the H4n, so the original H4 is not capable of this.

Well, it was a win/lose with the H4n.

They improved the pre-amps, and added some flexibility with the 4-track or mixer mode (such as dual recording of on-board mics and external mics). They improved the chassis design.

They did, however, lose the ability to take unbalanced line-level in through the 1/4" jacks. I use my H4 strictly as a line-level recorder using my mixer's outputs and it works quite well. That would be challenging with the H4n, since there is no "line in" setting. That's a pretty major omission.
