Combine footage of DVX100 & HVX200?

I'll need a second camera for this fall, and this may be too early to ask, but does anyone know (help me Mods) if I use the HVX with a miniDV on standard def, will I be able to use the footage in the same project with the DVX and see NO difference?

I'm hoping that Panny is going to have some kind of backwards compatable settings so that the gamma, etc. will match the 100a's in some of the various scene files.

If I can mix & no one would see the difference, then I'll buy the HVX when it's first available. If not, then I'll be forced to hold off & purchase another DVX instead.

Oh, and under the same question, do you think the filters I have for the DVX will work on the HVX as well (polarizer, etc.)?

The VariCam (Panasonic's full size 720p camera) has a setup file to look like a DVX100a.
The SDX900 (Panasonic's full size 480p camera) has a setup file to look like a DVX100a.

Probably could do the same thing with the HVX200 but that's merely a guess for now
until someone somewhere that I know has the camera and I could ask them.

What sort of filters do you have (4x4 square or 72mm?)
Square filters fit in a matte box and matte boxes are standardized with 15mm rods support,
so 4x4 filteres work on any camera you can buy and are "future proof" and a "better investment"
in the sense that you buy once and you know they'll stay with you well into the future.

Diameter filters aren't the same way, unless the new camera you want has the same diameter.
In the case of the HVX200, the longer zoom range (13x v 10x) means a larger diameter: 82mm.

So, if you have square filters you're safe for life.
If you have diameter filters, they'll need replaced.

Yep, I'll have to step up in cash eventually for some 4x4 filters, matte box, etc. But I'm guessing I'll be at least 2K into it then, from everything I've read of stuff I'll want, need, etc. Currently I've got the screw in, which works great for travel & QUICK set ups.

Since the HVX200 is 16:9 native, will the 4x4 Matte Box fit it, or will there be the same issues that size box has on the anamorphic adapter for the DVX?

The other native widescreen video camcorders work fine with 4x4 filters and probably 3x3 as well.
The size of the box is mostly a consideration when using a wide angle lens, you need a mattebox
that handles wide lenses without seeing the edges of the filter trays in the corners of the frame.

The only reason there is a special matte box for the anamorphic adapter is because the front of
it is square and not round like all other lenses. All other lenses are round and so are matte boxes.

Hope this helps.

I are not a matte box manufacturer :) but I think that is a good investment for your cams. (4x4 sure)
