Colour comparion thoughts?

I did this earlier. The one on the left is the original. The one on the right is color corrected to make the reds brighter. The one on the right has a different look to it then the left with a lot more reds, but would you say it was bad colouring, or just a different style? I think it almost give's it a 70's look. I'd love thoughts on this. I'm just trying to learn my camera.

Also, how can I make the reds brighter, without making anything that isnt red not brigher?

I was going to say it looked 50ish, not 70ish. Just needs a guy ina suit and hat, smoking a pipe and smiling at his Donna Reed-look-alike wife, and 3 kids.

I think it looks fine, just a different look. It might however, look like poo if a person were in frame. The color tweeking might wreck havoc with the flesh tones.

For making the reds *pop*, one trick is to use a Tiffen Didymium Enhancing filter. It doesn't so much tint the scene as red, as it clarifies the reds. In audio terms it is equivelent to a notch filter as opposed to an EQ.

Hey Matthew,

To me, it more looks like you weren't properly white balanced on the day of shooting, and you ended up with the image on the right. You then took it into the computer, and color corrected it to more properly balance the colors, and came out with the image on the left.

I think for the look you're going for, maybe try to keep the original colors more in tact, while giving it a red overall tone. If I had more time, I'd try to mess around with the original, and see what I could come up with. But, in the end, if you feel it achieves the look you're after, then stick with it

There was no white balancing done. I'd basically bought the camera, pulled it out, checked the Iris and hit record, hehe.
I was taking a ferry home. :-)
