Colors changing during shot - likely a dumb question

Disclaimer - I am purely a hobbyist so go easy.

What happens is, I'll be rolling on a nice shot and I change the framing slightly or zoom in or out, and the colors and "warmth" shift slightly but noticeably.

What am I doing wrong - it pretty much makes the shot unusable and is driving me crazy because I know there has to be a simple answer.

Also, is there a good book (like a Dummies Guide to the DVX or something) to get me better educated.

Thanks

Well, you might have auto white balance enabled, which could cause color shifts during a shot if you're moving the camera or altering the framing from one type of light source to another (e.g., tungsten practical to daylight, like when panning from an interior lit by house lamps to a window through which sunlight is streaming). The solution here would be to turn ATW off and either use one of the presets (5.6K or 3.2K) or manually white balance.

Or, if you're shooting with your aperture wide open, and using the full range of the zoom, at the telephoto end, the image will darken slightly because the lens does not maintain the same f-stop throughout the range (only when shooting wide open). In this case, you'd need to stop down from wide open so your lens can maintain the same stop throughout the zoom.

And yes, there is a dummies guide. It is Barry Green's DVX book and dvd and you can find it on this board. Just search a bit.

Also, use manual iris. Depending on the picture content, the exposure can change as you zoom (using auto iris). This may appear as a color shift.

Definately sounds like the auto white balance is turned on. Go into the menu and turn it off then do a manual white balance. Shouldn't have any color shifting then.
