Colorbars confusion

I decided to put some colorbars on the beginning of a tape. When I import it into Vegas, it looks like this. What gives? Is my monitor hopelessly off color? Does it even look odd to other people ?? DO I have a different issue/problem? Help meeeeeeee pleeeeeeezz....

How long did you have the bars on when taping? Long enough for the camera to start recording and settle down?

I get that (with anything...bars or images) if I just hit record and then pause earlier than about 3 seconds later.

It seems like the cam has to "spin up".

I understand that the camera takes a couple of seconds to get up to speed. That particular clip was 07;04 of actual captured footage, according to Vegas.
 
looks like some dropout in the tape, do you see it in the camera LCD as well ? (when playing the tape in camera)
