Color Temperature

I've been using the color temperature settings to change from warmer to cooler at the drop of a hat. I haven't noticed any noise increases, or any other losses of quality because of any adjustments. But I do not have a nice big monitor to judge, so my question is: does adjusting the color temp from -7 to +7 affect the image integrity at all?

Well, sure -- adjusting that will boost the gain to some of the CCDs, and boosted gain can cause noise. Try color temp +7, you should see a noticeable increase in graininess in the blue channel.

Question barry?

The detial Coring function. does it have any other effects on the image other than reducing noisy dark areas?

My real wonder is this, why dont they have it set to +7 automatically and why bother adjusting it. is it that people like noise or something. Whats teh point of making it adjustable.

I understand the rest of the controls in the Scene files, but Coring is a mystery to me.

Coring controls the threshhold beyond which edge enhancement ("detail") will function. The primary purpose of it is to let you isolate the noise and not edge-enhance the noise, while still allowing edge enhancement where you want it.

If you just pegged it at +7 all the time, your pictures would frequently look quite soft in comparison to others. All the fine edge detail that would benefit from a little "detail level" would be ignored; coring+7 really works against the "detail level" function.

Normally you'd want to dial in edge enhancement to where your overall image looks good, and then try raising the coring to just the point where the noise "disappears" (because it's no longer being edge-enhanced by the "detail level" circuit). This will also cause a loss of sharpening in the fine detail segments of your picture, but the goal is to try to strike the perfect balance.

Try setting two scene files (f1 & f2) to identical settings across the board, both with detail level +7 and v-detail-level +7, and then in f1 set coring to -2 and in f2 set it to +7. Toggle back and forth between the two and you should see a big difference. Yes the coring+7 version will be quieter, but it'll also be a lot softer.

noway....... Dude you never cease to amaze me. Dont you sleep?

Thank you though. I was having issueswith soft images, maybe thats why, i kinda keep Coring at like +7 all the tiem.
