Color looks desaturated

Here's something I've noticed that I'm not sure if it is normal or not. When I'm shooting with the Sony EX1 with a PP, the picture looks absolutely gorgeous on the EX1 LCD. However, when I import these clips into NLE, the footage looks very desaturated and dull. Is this normal?

I'm not seeing that with mine. Do you have a preview monitor that is calibrated, or at the very least is your lcd calibrated?

The only thing I've noticed is that the LCD rendition tends to look more yellowish than the footage as it appears on my calibrated screen in the editor. I haven't spotted any desaturation issues. Picture looks natural and colors are accurate with any of the Standard PPs.

That's abnormally odd then. I'll have to do more test on this then. The footage looks strangely dull and not as bright and colorful as when it was showing on the Sony LCD. Now, here's what I did and I'll have to do more test on this. Since I shoot the footage in 35Mb/s I can't open in Avid. So what I did is I use this utility to convert my MP4 files into .mov file and import that into Avid. I tried both DNxHD 36 and 175 conversion setting and both turn out to be dull and desaturated. So I guess what I'll need to do is open these files without the conversion and import to other programs to see if I they have the same issue.

Make sure you're looking at it through a video monitor and not a computer monitor. The two can be significantly different. Also, the video monitor should be set up properly with color bars using the blue gun.

I'm working with FCP and when I color correct it ends up looking darker in the computer than on the television monitor. It used to drive another editor nuts because he wasn't using a TV monitor to judge image quality.

Okay, I believed the problem may have been a combination of a couple of things. However, I did test the same footage in Sony Vegas and it looks much closer to what's showing on the Sony EX1 LCD monitor. The quality is not as bright and rich as what's showing in the EX1 LCD monitor but still much closer than what's showing in Avid. Now, my next question is, is there a way in Avid to control the display resolution? Any tips to calibrate my Dell LCD computer is much appreciated too. I have a nVidia Quadro FX 4400 video card.

Never mind, I think found out what the problem is. It's my video card in combination with my Dell monitor. I just remember. Every now and then when I reboot my computer, the display looks correct again. It seems that whatever settings I have in the nVidia Quadro FX card, I kept losing it or the Dell monitor kept ignoring it.

I would appreciate anyone who have an optimized setting for Quadro FX 4400 card use for Avid.
