Color lenses for HVX 200

Where can I find info on what the different color lenses do to the look of the image with HVX 200. I have a matte box with 4x4 holder for lenses...

One of the looks I'm trying to get with footage from my HVX is like the movie "Transporter 2". It looks as if all the footage has a yellow "Goldish" tent or somekind of contrast adjustment. I'm thinking about experimenting with color filters for my HVX 200 but know nothing about filters. Thanks...

Once upon a time Jarred made a Filter DVD that showed the effect of various filters. I don't know if he still has any left but you might ask him.

You'll have to consult the manufacturer of the lenses / gels for details, and above all, experiment with them. If you put stuff in front of the lens, it obviously gets recorded that way and is difficult or impossible to correct or remove in post.

I would instead look at applying filters in your video editor, or use a program such a Magic Bullet Editors to change the look.

Also, instead of getting gels, you could create scene files to achieve specific looks. Evin Grant should be coming out with a collection of scene files called the "Look Book" shortly.

Have you guys seen "Transporter 2"? Do you think this yellowish "Goldish" look was accomplished in post or with filters and if done in post what do you think was done?

I haven't seen it, but you should be able to add a light sepia or warming filter in your NLE to get similar results. Check out the Magic Bullet Examples to see if something there is close to what you are looking for.

Thanks for the link. I took a look at all the Magic Bullet examples and none of them even come close to the look of the film in Transporter 2. Maybe someone on these forums has this DVD at home or has watched it and can give me some feedback on how to get this look...

The answer is "In Post!!!". Either Davinci 2k, Polgo or a Digital intermediate. Basically about 3 to 4 hundred thousand dollar color correction devices.

I personally don't feel it's worth the loss of light and loss of resolution caused by putting a lot of color filters on.

Go for the look in post or with the camera settings. I've been able to get some nice goldish stuff if I mess with the color temp and chroma phase. Also keep in mind that one of the great things about the HVX200 is having the twice the color space of other cameras. You can do A LOT more with DVCPro HD than you could with miniDV or HDV.

You could also white balance to a warm card to avoid putting filters in front of the camera (and the light loss).

I would just do the color correction in post (yellowish/golden tint is easy to add).
