color issue

ok. Upon reading some stuff through this forum and others, ive come across two camps of thought with regard to color.

1 camp: Get your color with the camera

2 camp : get your color in post.

is there an advantage to getting color in postt? for example, if you were to turn the color level down to -5 or somehtign does the image become cleared, less color noise etcetera?

However, doesnt boosting color in post introduce artifacting?

What do cinematographers prefer to do with film?

Re: color issue

1: Get your color with the camera

2: Do colour corrections (between various shots, for consistancy) after in post.

NEVER shoot expecting to "fix" things after in post.
Always use the cameras settings.

Re: color issue

Perfect your shot in camera. Just pretend there's no such thing as fixitinpost. Once you have a clean image, you can choose to do whatever you want after.

Re: color issue

You have to remember that DV footage is highly compressed. If you shoot planning on making extreme changes later you will end up with very posterized and offcolor footage. IF you shoot with the colors that you want, you are capturing those colors in camera you are getting the raw data before it is compressed, giving you the best picture quality.
