Color grading inside Premiere CC

Hi!

I'm new to Premiere and have just started learning the ropes. What kind of plugins do you guys use for color grading? I have Magic Bullet Looks 2 but it's a bit buggy with Premiere CC (no preview frame on sped, reversed footage or adjustment layers).

I'd like to track and use masks to highlight things, mostly faces. But I guess you need to go with Resolve for that? I also see many using Colorista.

Any hints would be welcome!

Thanks!

Sami

Colorista works well for fast color grading.

To really get the power you want, Resolve is the way to go.

Plus it is free and there are plenty of tutorials online.

Next month, there will be an update for Creative Cloud subscribers allowing the professional coloring program SpeedGrade to directly open any Premiere Pro project, work on it, and then send it right back to Premiere Pro, without exporting or intermediates.

But if you use CC, you're stuck paying the Adobe tax for the rest of your life. Your work held hostage.

One of the reasons I upgraded to CS6 was SpeedGrade, which turned out to be all but worthless in any reasonable workflow. I felt like Adobe lied to me. Now they want to take my work hostage?

It's like they are making commercials for DaVinci Resolve. Which is fine by me. Resolve is great.

Electricity? Pretty weak analogy there.

How so? The overwhelming majority of us need to pay for power every single month if we want to get any work done, regardless of the NLE used. Yet no one balks at that reality. Why? Because it's the norm. It's what we've been doing all along.

Most of the arguments against subscribing are pretty weak, if not outright false. The bulk of the griping is simply because the subscription model is new, and some people just don't like change.
