Color correction

Hi,

I almost finish a movie I shot recently and I need to do color correction. I try to figure how the match color function works but I dunno how to use it. I read the manual, try to do exactly what described and I got nothing.

How I can correct the color on Avid Xpress Pro HD?

I finally found how to use that function. In the match window, click and hold the button and select the input color (in the current sequence). Then, do the same thing with the output color. After that, click on the match color and the correction will apply!

Sorry guys, perhaps it gonna be a silly question, but I just wondering why the ColorCorrection needs to be done... If you did a White/BlackBallance properly, it should be already ok...
Or you are talking about a special color correction effects regardless a real one?

If you did a White/BlackBallance properly

Speaking from personal opinion, I rarely want color to be "acurate." I'll white balance, and make it "correct" in the camera, but when I get the footage I'll tint the color to whatever effect I'm wanting. Make the colors warmer for Scene A and cooler for Scene B, etc. So to me, that's the primary reason that I Color Correct. This is of course when I'm working on footage that I've shot.

If I'm working on footage that has been brought to me then I invariably have to match scenes. Example: Shooting outside you white balance, but as the day ages then the color temperature changes and if you compare a shot from 5:00 PM to a shot from 10:00 AM you'll see a difference and you can correct for that. Ideally you would have handled that in camera at the scene, but it doesn't always get done.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I do the white/balance on the camera properly.

But, the short film I currently edit was shot with two AG-DVX100 and depend where the camera and the lighting is set, it change the color of the wall, but the rest is ok, so Its why I searched how to use the match color function.

On another movie I shot, I just do an auto balance and all scenes are ok.

Ok. Thank you for this little but very good examples!
Well, in terms of matching exact colors in case to get a shot from two or more cameras, how actually perform this color correction? Is there some technical trick?

I used the match color function in the avid editor. When you find how it work, this function is a charm. I match the color of all my scene shoot with two cameras with this and it's fine!
