Color Correction Question-UCP Preset?

I've been experiementing with CC in Vegas and found something I'm unfamiliar with. Does anyone know what the UCP Preset is and its use? When I've applied it to a clip, for the most part, I've been happy with the results.

Just wondering if this is a good tool or should I just tweak the clips manually?

David,

You know when you pull up Color Correction some illustrations appear as well (cartoon like drawings, usually on eyes with things like "remove yellow cast, etc.). When I drag it (UCP Preset) to the clip it changes the Color. As I said earlier, it usually looks pretty good.

Hey bill what version of vegas are you using?UCP preset?Never seen that in vegas before..

I think i know what ur talking about..Are you saying that when u select the color corrector plugin then you select the small things that look like eye droppers? When you drop them to on the clip it changes its color? Is that what your refering to?If thats it then you should know that all of them have a specific jobs..The complementary one and the adjustment color. There are tutorials on the same all over the net. They can also be used to correct white balance..

I'm using Vegas 8 Pro, but I'm not talking about the eye dropper toosl. I've used them before. On my computer, when I pull up Video FX several Presets come up: Computer RGB to Studio RGB, Studio RGB to Computer RGB, Red/Green/Blue Midtones, etc. One is called the UCP Preset.

I never noticed it before either, but when I drag it to the clip it changes the color.

Any idea what this is and should I even be using it?

Did you install any plugins? Maybe something from VASST?

As to whether or not you should use it, it certainly can't hurt. It's just another CC preset.

Yeah might be a plugin...just play around with it..if its good to your eyes then use it.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the help...and, yes, I guess it's possible it is a plugin. The thing that's odd about it is that it just seems very "intitutive." Not being a CC pro, it might really help. Just wanted to be sure that it won't foul things up.

Id really like to know where that preset came from..Pliz go to computer, programme files, sony, vegas pro 8,presets and check if theres anything inside that folder...Maybe David would advise us on how to check for any third party plugins in vegas.

Thome,

I don't see a Presets folder. I checked my Version 7 and the UCP Preset is shown there, too. Am I the only one who has this?

If it's from a plugin, it'll show in all versions of Vegas installed on your computer (as will all saved presets). Well, at least it used to; Vegas 8 changed some things, but I think that's still true. I haven't had multiple versions installed for a while, so I can't check that.

Most often, VASST tools and plugins use Vegas's own FX tools and have their own presets. This could be one -- did you install anything from VASST, even a demo?

under Options, hold shift and click Preferences. you should then see a tab among the familiar ones called "Internal"...this function gives you the most controls over how Vegas operates on your machine. I believe there's a function called "Use Vegas only Plugins" if the default says "True", change it to false, and any plugin you have will be enabled. this goes the other way too.

Shift/Prefs...can be a scary good tool...try it out...you can tweak near anything in Vegas.

Messing with the Internal stuff is NOT something you should do unless you really know what you're doing. :) You could end up having to uninstall/reinstall Vegas.

...and I certainly fall under the catagory of "not knowing what I'm doing."

I think I'll leave well enough alone. Whatever the tool is, and wherever it came from, it seems to work for me.

Thanks for the help!
