Color Correcting question

I usually just screw around with the three way wheel within FCP but recently have started tooling around with After Effects and also Color for color correcting. I usually come up with a look that I like and settle for it.

My question is this, how do I correct my whites to actually be white? I always have trouble with this.

Well, the 3-way filter in FCP has a little eye-dropper in the WHITES area that you click on, then you click on something that is supposed to be white, and BOOM, it makes it white. COLOR has an AUTOBALANCE feature...not sure about AE.

The Auto balance feature in Color is pretty much useless, IMO. You use the scopes in Color to make sure white is white. If you are using the RGB 3D scope you can sample a point in the image and get the RGB values for it and you can do a similar thing in AE where it shows you the RGB value for whatever the mouse is hovering over.

Then this would be a good case for doing this with the 3-way, THEN taking it to Color. As the 3-way settings transfer to color.
