Color correcting question.

Does anyone know if vegas 5.0 will do the B&W with one color (e.g. b&w picture with red flowers) like fcp and pinnicle will do?

Re: Color correcting question.

Yeah. There are a couple of ways of doing it -- the most direct of which being the use of the Secondary Color Corrector tool.

I'm travelling and I don't have access to Vegas right now, but the basic idea is to isolate the color you want to keep and get rid of all the rest ("garbage" colors) by simple desaturation. You should be able to see how to do this from the options in the Effects Editor window for the SCC. If you want to keep the red in a rose, for example, you can choose the red with the eyedropper, expand the range a bit to get all of the shades of red, and then desaturate all the other colors. If you want to isolate more than one color (red blossom, green stem), you might need to use multiple clips overlayed and adjust transparencies.

I'd walk you through it step by step if it were in front of me, but as I said, I don't have it right now. Maybe one of the other guys can be more precise in answering.

Re: Color correcting question.

Thanks david I will try that. Thank you again for all the posts I have learned alot from dvxuser.com.

Re: Color correcting question.

From Vegas' help file:

"If you want to adjust all colors except the selected color, add 180 degrees to the Center value and set the Width high enough that all colors except the selected color are within the range. If you set the Saturation to 0, you can create a black-and-white scene where only a single color remains."

Note: the "Center" and "Width" controls referred to in the above quote pertain to the "limit hue" controls. Uncheck the "limit saturation" and "limit luminance" controls as they aren't necessary for this effect.

Re: Color correcting question.

Thanks for that tip Jive! I remember discussing this awhile back and YES it can be done!

Re: Color correcting question.

Oh, BTW, I forgot to mention. In the SCC dialogue, there's a preset from the dropdown menu called "Desaturate all but Reds". This might just do what you're wanting... ;D

Re: Color correcting question.

Yeah, that should be the Vegas Power Tip of the Month: Use the presets!

;)

Re: Color correcting question.

Also

If using the EYEDROPPER to select your RANGE don't just click and point but click and expand the little rectangle

(In case they didnt know)

I didn't even THINK to do that! That's an awsome feature! Seriously, no other eyedropper-type tool in any other app that I know of can do that! And here I was thinking that FCP still had something on Vegas (easier color range selection)! Vegas takes the lead again! :)

Nice one Hudson! :D
